Scott Lynch

Scott has directed the Candlelighters operations for five years. He previously served as the Program Director for the El Paso Empowerment Zone after a twenty year career in business. He serves on the boards of Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and Mt. Franklin Kiwanis and the Advisory Board for Children’s Hospital at Providence. Scott has an MBA and most recently received his CFRE accreditation as a certified fundraising professional.

Outside of work he enjoys traveling, skiing, golf, tennis, and time with family. “I’m most proud of the expanding range of support that we continue to provide free of charge thanks to our supportive community and through our Donation Center’s partnership with Savers.”

Beate Burdett

Beate brings to Candlelighters 15+ years of nonprofit fund raising and marketing experience, having worked for such organizations as United Way, American Heart Association, and Loretto Academy. In addition, Beate has been an active board member of Pro Musica, El Paso Museum of Art, El Paso Zoological Society, El Paso Symphony, and VIVA El Paso. Beate has her degree in Psychology with an emphasis on Early Childhood Development. She is currently a member of the West Side Rotary Club. When not working she enjoys antiquing, interior design, floral arrangement, and getting together with friends. “I believe it is critically important to provide the funding resources and the community awareness to our organization so that we can fulfill our mission of no family fighting cancer alone.”

Mary Chavez

Mary was introduced to Candlelighters after her daughter, Vanessa, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. After the support that Candlelighters offered Vanessa and her family during her 4 year treatment, Mary wanted to return the favor and share her management and grant experience by working for Candlelighters. She is a proud mother of 3 beautiful daughters and 2 grandchildren. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.

Guadalupe Ortiz

Guadalupe has a Bachelors Degree in Social Psychology. She has being working with non-profit organizations for the past sixteen years and has been dedicated to preventing, educating, coordinating, facilitating and implementing various projects. She enjoys advocating for the needs of others and reaching all the resources available to help their needs. She considers herself to be a very humble, creative, spontaneous and outgoing person. She dedicated 13 years volunteering at Candlelighters before obtaining the job as a Family Case Manager. She enjoys every second of it! She has served as an AmeriCorps Member for the past two years and was selected to be the state representative. She really loved it because it gave her the opportunity to learn, serve and work with people coming from different paths.

Sarai Perez

Sarai has her degree in Family and Child Science from New Mexico State University. She began at Candlelighters as an intern in 2008 and began as an employee in 2009. Her future goals are to continue her education and become a certified Child Life Specialist.

Mary Vasquez

Mary has been with Candlelighters for over 17 years. She began as a volunteer after her son lost his battle to Anaplastic Anemia in 1992. As a volunteer she was able to relate to parents who were facing similar challenges as she had. “Volunteering for Candlelighters was the best thing that ever happened to me after my son’s loss.” The position for Family Service Director was open and she was then hired as a staff member working with the families. She values the importance of families since she comes from a family of 18 siblings.
